Alternative Medicinal Applications

As a descendent of the Cherokee and Choctaw tribes. I follow the traditions and practices of the traditional medicine of these peoples. Specifically that portion of tribal medicine that deals with holistic medication and herbs, their blending and application.
Traditional medicine as was and is practiced among the native indigenous peoples of the world has provided a stable and reliable source of relief for the various diseases that afflicted them. It wasn't until the advent of colonialism that we saw a spread of diseases of a type that these indigenous peoples and their pharmacopoeia were unable to deal with. Such as measles, cholera, typhoid and other such rapidly spreading diseases.
Given a period of time the Shamans and other medicine practioners of the period would have developed a cure. However with the pressure of colonial expansion, it was not possible.
Lets take a moment and examine what is known today of the various fields of practice.
Traditional Medicine; is that pharmacopoeia as practiced by native indigenous peoples. This form when taken out of the hands of the indigenous peoples and is applied by non-native peoples in a closely researched and clarified form. Has often been given various names which are used in an effort to become an accepted field of medical science. Such as; Holistic, Naturalistic and Alternative as well as others.
Conventional Medicine; is that form of medicine as practiced by those persons who have been trained under the umbrella of the field of Medicine that is taught in our schools of medical science. Which is a descendent of that field developed by the Europeans. And, is sanctioned by the American Medical Association,[AMA]. And, their journal "The, Journal of the American Medical Association [JAMA]." Often as not the two are in disagreement with each other over the various practices that are proposed. Often real break through's are passed over in favor of advise by pharmaceuticals that are produced and recommended by the pharmaceutical companies. Often I feel this field has digressed into its pre-heritage. Taken with the high percentage of doctors who have been charged with malpractice and those who demonstrate a lack of knowledge of the field they are supposed to have extensive education and experience in.
Holistic medicine; is the recognition of the body as a whole. Not as a group of separate independent parts that operate and function separately. It does not diagnose an aliment as a affliction of a separate part but as a cause and affect of the body whole. Therefore it manifests its self in the treatment of the body whole.
Cause and Effect
We must recognize that society today has to take responsibility for its actions. Since the beginning of the industrial age and the abandonment of an agrarian society. We have depleted our soil and drained it of all its minerals and nutrients. Farmers have relied upon chemicals to replinish the soil. Unfortunately this has not solved the problem. The problem of; "fruits and vegtables" that find their way to the grocers shelf which are devoid of the minerals and nutrients that are required by our bodies in order to maintain a balenced imune system. In order for man to heal himself he must first recognize this fact.
As a Traditionalist of Holistic or Naturalistic solutions. I do not practice "medicine" as defined by the AMA.
