Col. Monger, Chief of Staff

With the renewed interest in early US and Civil War history, about eighteen years ago I re-activated the 1st Cherokee Mounted Rifles and all of it's companies and associated Ranger units. I am looking for, and accepting recruits into the unit. It is a Civil War Confederate dismounted cavalry unit, dedicated to the preservation of the memory, history, and honor of the American Indians of the Indian Territory who fought for the Trans-Mississippi West, Army of the Confederate States of America.

1st Cherokee Mounted Rifles - Regimental Color Guard - 2000 Veterans Day parade - Ponca City, Oklahoma

We consider the "Battle of Round Mountain, Yale, Oklahoma" our home re-enactment. I have been attending it since it was founded. This is an annual re-enactment, as opposed to many other events which are every three to four years. We re-enact in only those events that the original Mounted Rilfes faught in. Unless we get a special invitation to participate in an event [then we do this as a historical interpretation of an event]. We do not calvanize or participate in Gettysburg style Civil War re-enactment.

We ask that you live close enough to get to the events

If you are interested in joining the 1st Cherokee Mounted Rifles, and be part of the events that were faught here in the Indian Territory, Arkansas and Missouri. Then come and join us and participate in our effort to preserve the history of the unit and the honor of our Indian ancestors:

E-mail me if you have experience in re-enacting and want to form a company. If you qualify, I will commission the company and the Company Commander. We also have several Regimental Staff positions available. Headquarters Company has vacancies also.

If you are interested in guerrilla warfare, then the 1st Bn Cherokee Partisan Rangers may be of interest to you.

I am also accepting membership applications for the 1st Cherokee Mounted Rifles (Womens Auxillary) also. If you are interested in this branch, indicate it on your application.
