Climbing the BURKE Family Tree
Burke family tradition holds that my gg-grandmother, Jane BURKE's grandfather had immigrated from northern Ireland to Virginia.
My Burke line starts with my gg-grandmother Jane Burke. Who was married to Richard Wilson. [verified records]
As a certified research field archealogist and genealogist I have spent over fifty years questioning my roots. Family tradition held that we were "Black Dutch," a term I have spent all my life researching. I have found that it is a loose term applied to those whose ancestors came from northern Ireland the Isles and western Scotland. The offspring of the ship wrecked Spaniards from the Spanish Armada and the Scots and Irish of the Isles. I started collecting family information and pictures when I was ten years old. Over 50 years ago. Following the Burke line, it has taken me to Ireland and beyond. The Burke's of Ireland are by origin relocated Norman's from about 1066 A.D. during the time of the William the Firsts, Norman Invasion. The Burke line originated in the area of Normandy, France. From the House of De Burgio. The Internet has been a boon to genealogical research. However much of what is posted must be taken with a grain of salt. About 60% of it is spectulation. If I could just get all of my family surname lines to work as intensive as my Wilson line. I would have a fairly complete genealogical record in a short period of time. The family name has been spelled variously as Burk, Burke and Burks or Burkes, and they have long been part of the MacDonald Clan.
You will note the Norman cross embossed in red overlayed on the background. The rampaging lion in the upper left quarter would tend to imply that the family had Scottish or English ties by marriage. ________________________________________________________________________________

Effie Neomi Wilson
Effie Naomi WILSON, born 1842 in McMinn Cty., Tennessee, died 1928 in Atoka, Atoka Cty.[and is buried there], Oklahoma. Grandma was married to Larkin Franklin SWAFFORD.
Notes on Effie:She was my g-grandmother on my maternal grandfather James Monroe SWAFFAR's side. It seems my grandfather changed the spelling of his last name sometime after my mother was born. Her birth certificate reflects the last name of Swafford. Several of grandpa's brothers and sisters changed theirs as well. My mother has told me for my entire life that her maiden name was Swaffar. I presumed this was correct until I saw a photo of my uncle William Larkin Swaffar, mothers only brother. My grandma had written his name on the back as "William Larkin Swafford."
