Capt. Thomas Robins was born abt. 1748 in Orange Cty., Virginia. He along with his parents and siblings relocated from Orange Cty., Virginia to old Surry / Wilkes Cty., North Carolina. Land records indicate that the family arrived before 1775. Since the first land records indicate registeration of land patents dated 1775 under his father, John Robins Sr.
